The National Land Agency invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position within the Surveys & Mapping Division:
Control Database Administrator
The successful candidates will report to the Manager, Topographic & Hydrographic Surveys
Job Purpose
To build and maintain database for control points in the geodetic network that support surveying and mapping process
Key Responsibility Areas
Managing/Administrative Responsibilities
Plans and organizes work activities in the Unit
Prepares reports on the status of activities in the Unit
Provides leadership through example and sharing of knowledge and skills
Technical/Professional Responsibilities
Organizes the digital control database: creates the relevant files and data tables in the database; establishes the links between the data tables and the associated files; defines the procedures and queries processes for storage and retrieval of data; implements strategies for maintaining system security and data integrity
Identifies and acquires data sets related to the National Geodetic control Network: carries out searches in the Documentation Centre for relevant data sets and extracting, sorting and copying all relevant data sets for inclusion in database; includes in database approved data sets from Geodetic survey and updates database from verified reports of damaged or destroyed control points
Populates and maintain the digital control database: carries out data entry procedures to load relevant data sets into the digital control database; makes relevant notations in database to identify damaged or destroyed control marks and carries out coordinate transformation processes to convert three dimensional coordinate values between the various Geodetic Datum, if necessary, for storage in database
Facilitates data retrieval and query processes: defines and documents procedures for search and retrieval of related data and generates the relevant reports; establishes, defines and documents database query processes for the retrieval and display of groups of related data sets
Required Competencies
The post-holder will be able to demonstrate:
Ability to communicate at all levels
Sound knowledge of database systems and processes
Understanding of Geodetic datum and coordinate systems
Competence in the use of related computer software
Knowledge of surveying
Minimum Required Education and Experience
BSc in Geo-Informatics or equivalent
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a geo-informatics environment
Certificate in Supervisory Management
