Curriculum Specialist
Job Summary
The curriculum specialist is responsible for planning, designing and developing academic content and programming for deployment via online and other modalities of instruction. He or she will identify and adapt additional innovative curriculum tools, strategies and practices that contribute to the goals of the Distance Education Department and the university in general. This position reports to the Director of Distance Education.The successful candidate will be expected to:
Collaborate with College Deans, Chairs, Faculty, Academic Technology Team, Consultants, Content Specialists, and other related stakeholders to develop, adopt, remediate or repackage academic content and programming for deployment via online or other modalities of instruction.
Utilise best practices, research, current learning theory and technical knowledge to create extraordinary educational experiences for learners that successfully develops them in the related content areas and fostering mastery and achievement of prescribe curricular and learner objectives.
Have expert level knowledge of the most current learner management systems, instructional technology innovation, instructional design processes, curriculum integration across content areas and curriculum alignment.
Demonstrate in practicum prior work focus on assessing learner needs and styles, defining measurable learning objectives, creating the learning environment and content materials, implementing the training, evaluating the effectiveness of the curriculum and remediating the curriculum as needed.
Qualifications and Experience Required
Master’s degree in Curriculum Development or related field.
Minimum four (4) years’ experience in Curriculum Development, preferably with experience in distance education, at a tertiary Institution.
Project Management Qualification/Certification is an asset
Required Skills or Competencies
Intermediate to advanced skill in the use of the Blackboard Course Management System
Excellent working knowledge of the Aeorion Learning Management System or similar systems such as Moodle
Knowledge of online course development standards and procedures and educational applications of social media
