Dean, Faculty of Science & Technology
Description of Role
The Dean has responsibility for the academic, personnel, financial and administrative affairs of the Faculty; the administration and efficient conduct of the educational programmes while enforcing the policies and regulations.
Requirements
Masters’ Degree in a subject area, certification in Education Administration and/or Leadership with the requisite Teacher Training qualifications and experience or Doctor of Philosophy with Teacher Training qualifications and the requisite teaching experience.
The effective and focused implementation in the Faculty of the teaching and learning policy and strategy of the University College.
Establishing and/or maintaining the necessary structures that will ensure that the academic offering of the Faculty are relevant and of a high quality.
Positioning the Faculty within the core business of the Mico University College with regard to research, teaching and community interaction.
Providing leadership in academic research and publication of articles for journals and for the effective and appropriate implementation within the Faculty of the research policy and strategy of the University College.
Organizing conferences in the Faculty to foster academic scholarship while projecting the University College’s image both locally and internationally.
Reviewing the degree programmes being offered in the Faculty and evaluating new degree programmes being developed.
Administering of Students’ Affairs as related to admissions, final examination results and class of degrees.
Fostering and maintaining sound personal and professional relationships among the members of staff and between staff and clients.
Welcoming new students and providing orientation with regard to the activities of the Faculty and promoting the value systems of the University College.
Ensuring the process of programme accreditation and ratifying exams within the Faculty.
Chairing Faculty Board Meetings.
Establishing a sound research culture in the Faculty and writing proposals for funding.
Analyzing External Examiners’ reports, disseminating them to members of staff through Heads of Departments and leading the corrective action plan.
Excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication skills and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a collaborative work environment.
The ability to articulate a clear vision for the future of the University College.
The ability to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans.
Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and ability to manage budgets.
Proven leadership and management/supervisory experience.
Desirable
Demonstrated success in attracting resources through fundraising efforts.
Ability to maintain and develop strong undergraduate and professional programs.
Experience managing research and graduate programs.
