Destination Marketing Officer

Job Summary
Reporting to the Destination Marketing Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a positive image of the Jamaica Tourist Board and destination Jamaica and to encourage acceptance of the Jamaican tourism product by foreign journalists. In addition, the incumbent will be required to participate in the development and management of the Jamaica Tourist Board’s marketing and advertising campaigns and play a key role in communicating the Board’s marketing message.

Key Responsibility Areas
Technical/Professional Responsibilities
Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of marketing strategies for the tourism industry;
Collaborate with Regional Directors, to ensure that relevant and appropriate sales and marketing collateral are prepared for distribution;
Provide collateral material to support travel trade’s efforts, or in support of corporate and incentive programme(s);
Work closely with hotels, attractions, restaurants, etc., participate in the development and implementation of the marketing plan for the Board;
Maintain extensive knowledge of market/industry trends, developments, customers, competitors, and products;
Assist in the development of a Domestic Tourism Sales Programme;
Arrange site inspection tours of resort areas, and attractions as part of training for local and overseas sales staff;
Participate in the implementation of marketing and advertising programs through the planning and project management of the creative development process i.e. arrange production meetings, coordinate production plans, attend on-location production visits and follow through for deliverables;
Plan and manage the production and distribution of collateral material, update, proofread and approve collateral materials brochures;
Identify and define new and emerging tourism opportunities, consumer groups, special interests tourism, and cultural tourism to develop marketing activities that capitalize on the opportunities presented to Jamaica;
Assist with developing positioning of Jamaica by:
– Promoting the diverse accommodations available – Highlighting the various tourism experiences on the island
– Targeting defined audience groups with relevant, timely and engaging information
Assist with changing the perception of visitors whose views may not be aligned to the positive story of Brand Jamaica;
Plan marketing activities for resort areas and support major stakeholders with accessing marketing assets;
Prepare comprehensive marketing reports for dissemination in the Board;
Liaises with the Marketing Communications Unit in the planning and implementation of familiarization tours and site inspections;
Respond to tourism enquiries which require research, evaluation and recommendations; Administrative Responsibilities
Update and compile monthly activity reports for submission to the Destination Marketing Manager which should include:
– An assessment of the cost effectiveness for each event/activity for which he/she is responsible
– An evaluation of the activity
– Ascertain the learning outcome of the activity
Provide administrative support in the development of the annual calendar of marketing activities and Fiscal Budget for the Department;
Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.

Knowledge of the variances of the travel trade and their particular nuances
Knowledge of new and emerging consumer trends in the travel industry
Ability to develop key market marketing and advertising campaign
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with various media in the travel trade
Ability to coordinate and monitor various activities and projects relating to media relations
Ability to envision and articulate ideas to enhance the media exposure of the Jamaican product
Strong attention to detail, copy writing and editing
Knowledge of Project Management
Proficient in Microsoft office

Required Education and Experience
First Degree in Marketing, Tourism, or in any other related field
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in brand marketing
Previous experience working with the destination/brand marketing
Certificate in Project Management would be an asset

Unusual Working Conditions
Extended working hours (weekends and public holidays included).
Must be able to manage multiple projects across multiple platforms.
May require overseas travel.
Extensive out of town travel – around island.

Special Requirement
Own and operate a reliable motor vehicle.
