Director, Special Programmes (GMG/SEG 2)

Job Purpose
Under the direction of the National Librarian, the Director, Special Programmes is responsible for planning, and coordinating the Poet Laureate of Jamaica’s Programme as well as other special projects, initiatives and innovative undertakings of the NLJ. The incumbent formulates, develops implements and manages branding initiatives, marketing and communication projects, special events, exhibitions and publications for the NLJ, local and international partners. The mandate of this position will also include identifying grant funding for writing opportunities, making oral presentations, preparing project documents, budgets and operational plans.

Key Responsibilities
Collaborates with the National Librarian in the development of the operational plans and work plan for special programmes.
Participates in the strategic planning process, setting goals, prioritising initiatives coordinating activities and managing resources and technologies.
Develops and implements procedures, and guidelines to ensure the efficient and effective administration of the special programmes.
Develops and utilizes administrative initiatives to improve the coordination of the work teams internally and externally.
Assesses the performance and overall effectiveness of the library’s special programme and initiative against the company’s strategic goals and objectives.
Coordinates and manages the Branding and Marketing Initiatives of NLJ
Promote the services and resources of the library by communicating initiatives to the users, partners and the general public.
Monitors projects, programmes and planned events to ensure that activities are within budget and in line with funds disbursed.
Requests interns and students on work experience programme and make recommendations for their deployment.
Designs work activities for interns and supervises their performance during the period of their internship.

A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in developing and managing and implementing special projects in the Arts or Education sector.
Two (2) years’ experience in marketing/public relations and events planning and management.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Desktop publishing and social media applications

Special Conditions Associated with the Job
Required to work beyond normal working hours in order to include weekend and public holiday
