In this position, you support the eMobility Group in the area of battery system development with 3rd party suppliers at DTNA. You will be interfacing with external companies on emerging battery technology that could apply to our vehicles. This is an emerging, exciting technology, and the right person will drive DTNA’s success by helping our engineering department, customers and network adopt the new vehicles into their operations.

Responsibilities

- Support companywide development and launch of electric mobility at Daimler Trucks.

- Support technical development and strategy for battery system technologies with external and 3rd party vendors. This includes temperature sensing, current sensing, power switching, fusing, electromagnetic interference (EMI, and electrical connectivity topics.

- Work with senior level engineers to investigate and lead interaction with external battery suppliers, making recommendations on who Daimler should partner with that has the best technology and feasibility, both now and for advanced future technology development.

- Analyze critical battery performance during the entire product lifecycle, including power and energy performance, battery life, safety performance.

- Conduct detailed product and technology comparisons between internal battery sources and external partners.

- Define standards and requirements for crash safety surrounding vehicles with high voltage systems.

- Define OBD requirements & provide input to development team to ensure designs are complaint.

- Collaborate with Product Validation Engineering for running simulations/tests on high voltage battery system performance requirements and targets.

- Work closely with other team members to increase understanding of failure modes, performance and life expectancy of battery systems.

- Deliver technical guidance and prompt response to internal/external customers with issues or inquiries pertaining to 3rd party battery suppliers.

- Provide input into the creation of global Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) document in all areas related to battery systems.

- Work with vehicle production team to resolve manufacturing process issues related to battery systems. Diagnose root cause with external vendors, interfacing with cross-functional groups.

- Work across many engineering teams to ensure alignment of goals including defining battery and system requirements and specification, selecting cells and packs, designing battery management/ protection circuit and firmware.

- Stay current on technological developments and generate new ideas and methods for vehicle design optimizations, systems and processes.

- Coordinate efforts with internal/external partners such as colleagues in Europe, Detroit, Japan, and various suppliers.

- Broaden your expertise outside of your immediate responsibilities and become an expert in eMobility topics.
