Senior Accountant(District)
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Management Accountant, the Senior Accountant – District is responsible for conducting and monitoring general accounting functions in the various Regions or District Offices of NIC to ensure compliance with proper procedures.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Maintaining accounting records which includes the General Ledger and subsidiary accounting records in compliance with relevant standards and procedures;
Verifying/Checking District expenditures to ensure processes/controls have been adhered to;
Ensuring the District bank accounts are reconciled by the scheduled dates;
Assisting with development of operational plans and annual budget;
Supporting Management with the preparation of:
– Bank reconciliation statements (monthly)
– Sub-ledger documents
– Monthly Reports to include District Profit and Loss Statements;
Reviewing District Offices submissions of warrants to Head Office for fortnightly subventions;
Preparing Budget variance analysis from District Accounts to advise Management on areas for compliance within budgetary guidelines;
Monitoring and Supporting electronic banking and digitization processes within the District Offices;
Preparing designated Audit schedules;
Producing monthly and ad hoc reports on District accounting activities;
Assisting with development of District Accounting personnel to include sensitization and evaluation.
Minimum Required Qualification and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or completion of Level 2 ACCA Certification;
A minimum of (3) years’ working experience in Accounting;
Specialized training in the use of appropriate software packages-Eg. MS Dynamic Great plains;
Sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices;
Knowledge of FAA Act;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with advance knowledge of Microsoft Excel;
Good interpersonal and teamwork skills;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
High degree of integrity;
Ability to work under tight deadlines;
Reliable motor vehicle to facilitate travels to District offices.
