We are looking for teaching assistants who have knowledge of supporting young people who have mental health needs. Following so much time out of school young people will be returning to school in need of additional support, so we need your expertise to support this. Knowledge of supporting challenging behaviours will also be beneficial.
You will be supporting secondary aged pupils who have been excluded from mainstream education and often have social and emotional and mental health needs. This is a full time position with the opportunity to be a permanent role for the right person.
You will have the opportunity to complete the following CPD before starting:
- Mental Wellbeing in Children and Young People
- Managing Classroom Behaviour
- Mindfulness
- Promoting Positive Behaviour
- Safeguarding
- Prevent Duty
- Female Genital Mutilation
You will need to be:
- Fun and creative
- Happy to get involved in creative subjects such as arts and PE
- An excellent communicator
- Someone who can think outside of the box
- Have a resilient personality
Responsibilities of the role involve:
- Supporting Secondary aged pupils who have social emotional and mental health needs and sometimes also have special educational needs
- Helping pupils catch up with their education, many pupils have missed a lot of school in the past (and lots recently due to COVID-19)
- Supporting pupils on a 1-1 basis where necessary
- Creating a positive environment for children and staff
- Managing challenging behaviours of pupils
- Working alongside other staff to achieve the best outcomes for pupils
Ideally you will have experience supporting children or adults with SEN or Mental Health Needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
