Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), the largest tax collecting Authority in Jamaica, is seeking suitably qualified individuals to apply for the following vacant position:
Accountant Advance Control (Level 3)– Kingston – Not Vacant
Job Purpose
To maintain the related Registers for the Final Accounts Unit, make adjustments and clearances of Advances and prepare the relevant Journal Vouchers.
Key Responsibility Areas
Technical and Professional Duties
Checks Financial Management System to identify advance payments;
Verifies payee, amount, date, voucher number and advance type;
Records advances paid in Advance Register;
Retrieves copies of Advance Vouchers from Cashier or Records Officer, to ensure that advances are cleared in the required manner;
Creates Journal Vouchers of advances to clear expenditure and submits to the Senior Accountant Final Accounts;
Drafts letters re advances for amounts that are outstanding in excess of one month and pursues until the amounts are cleared;
Communicates with advances in cases of discrepancies and pursues until resolved;
Prepares outstanding advances and submits to the Senior Accountant, Final Accounts.
Required Competencies
Specific Knowledge
Expert knowledge of the Financial Audit and Administration (FAA) Act and Ministry of Finance’s circulars and guidelines;
Working knowledge of TAJ’s operation, functions and Code of Conduct;
Working knowledge of computer systems and the relevant applications.
Required Skills and Specialised Techniques
Excellent time management skill;
Very good interpersonal, communication and team skills;
Ability to pay keen attention to details.
Qualification and Experience
Associate Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or the equivalent qualification;
Government Accounting Level II;
At least two (2) years’ work-related experience.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment.
