Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), the largest tax collecting Authority in Jamaica, is seeking suitably qualified individuals to apply for the following vacant position:
Payroll Officer (Level 3) – 2 Positions – Kingston – Not Vacant

Job Purpose
The Payroll Officer is responsible for the processing of permanent payroll to facilitate the payment of salary and the dispatch of statutory deductions according to stipulated guidelines.

Responsibility Areas
Technical and Professional Duties
Calculates and prepares payroll advisory to Accountant General in respect of salary adjustments;
Checks the interim payroll from Accountant General, identifies discrepancies and returns with correction within two (2) days;
Reviews final payroll to ascertain whether the adjustments and corrections were made and notes unresolved issues for the next pay cycle;
Prepares salary advance for employees short paid or not on the payroll;
Classifies and codes payroll by Pay Station for submission to the Senior Payroll Officer;
Sorts and packages pay advice, Deduction Listing and cheques for distribution to the Pay Stations;
Endorses new deduction orders from employees;
Updates salary card with payments for employees who have been separated from TAJ and submits to the Internal Audit Section;
Calculates payments of vacation leave for persons who resign or retire and sends the salary cards to the Internal Audit Section;
Responds to queries with respect to salaries from both internal and external customers;
Prepares P24 and P45 Forms on request;
Checks Salary Payment Vouchers prepared by other officers;
Performs other related duties assigned by the Senior Payroll Officer.

Required Competencies
Specific Knowledge
Good knowledge of the Financial Audit and Administration (FAA)Act;
Knowledge of the operations and functions of Tax Administration Jamaica;
Working knowledge of computer systems and the relevant applications, especially excel.
Required Skills and Specialised Techniques
Excellent time management skill;
Excellent interpersonal skill;
Very good communication skill;
Good team skill.
Qualification and Experience
Associate Degree/Diploma in Accounting or ACCA Level 1 or equivalent qualification;
Government Accounting Level 2;
One (1) year work related experience.

Working Conditions
Normal office environment;
Expected to work beyond normal working hours/weekends to meet strict deadlines.
